the Co-operative way
We’re a community co-operative in Oxfordshire, growing and making certified organic hemp and CBD. Real people, real land, real love in every bottle.

Seed to bottle
How our Organic CBD Oil is made
Step one
Certified organic extract
We start with broad-spectrum hemp extract from trusted organic European growers, chosen for purity and grown to certified organic standards.
Step two
Blended in Oxfordshire
Here on home ground we blend it with our own organic hemp seed oil, one of Hempen's flagship products, in small, carefully made batches.
Step three
Tested and bottled
Every batch is independently lab tested and the results published, then bottled in 10ml amber glass with a pipette for easy, measured use.

CULTIVATE, CO-OPERATE
REGENERATE
Hempen began as an idea – to form a resilient rural community centred around the cultivation of hemp. We’d heard that this miracle plant could do so much, clothe us, house us, fuel us, feed us and heal us. So we wanted to practically work with hemp in a holistic, ethical and regenerative way.
Our mission is to co-operatively cultivate hemp solutions to enhance the health of the people, our communities and the land.
In 2015 Hempen was established as a not-for-profit worker’s co-operative. The first seeds of hemp were sown in a 30 acre field and the first tender sprouts of community started to show.
The story of a hemp crop of hope travelled far and wide and brought people with the same dreams together. Some of those first arrivals are still here today. Many more continue to visit.

Organic Hemp
Soil Association Organic Certification ensures your products are clean, nutrient rich, free from chemicals and contaminants. Food and cosmetics that are good for our you and good for the soil too!
UK Grown Hemp
Supporting hemp grown in the UK means a shorter supply chain and a smaller carbon footprint. Together, we’re creating the emergence of a green UK economy. Support local, think global.
Supporting Farmers
We work with farmers who want to do things differently, putting the health of ecosystems first. We cultivate hemp that is grown outdoors, deep in the earth, under full natural sunlight.
Not-for-Profit
Hempen’s guidestone is to be a not-for-profit social enterprise. All profits are reinvested into our mission. Real stuff, not shareholder pockets. Be part of the movement. Show us some love. Donate here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CBD (cannabidiol) is one of more than 100 cannabinoids found naturally in the hemp plant. Broad and full spectrum oils keep a range of the plant’s natural compounds, such as other cannabinoids and terpenes, rather than CBD alone. In the UK, CBD sold as a food supplement is a “novel food” regulated by the Food Standards Agency.
We’re not allowed to tell you, and we’d rather be honest about why. UK rules don’t allow anyone selling CBD to say it helps with any health condition. If you’d like to look at the evidence yourself, the NHS and the Food Standards Agency are good places to start, and your GP or pharmacist can advise you.
What we can tell you is exactly what’s in every bottle: see our lab reports. The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to have no more than 10mg of CBD a day, and not to take CBD if pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, unless under medical direction.
No. Hemp is a variety of the cannabis plant bred to contain very low levels of THC, the compound that causes a high. Our CBD products are made from hemp and independently lab tested, and you can see the results for every batch on our lab reports page.
Our seed products, such as hemp protein, hemp seed oil and whole seeds, contain only trace amounts of cannabinoids.
Hempen is a not-for-profit worker’s co-operative. Our profits are reinvested in our mission, not shareholder pockets, we are led by and owned by our workers.
We consult and partner with farmers across the British Isles to increase the cultivation of hemp. Based on the Hardwick Estate, our farm is part laboratory, part community, part homestead, part educational space, part wellbeing hub that continues to evolve and inspire. Nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Oxfordshire, check out our Hempen Events to visit!
Our worker’s co-op produce and innovate organic products from hemp cosmetics and hemp based superfoods, on organic farmland certified by the Soil Association.
Having control over the end-to-end process, from seed to shelf, means we can guarantee unparalleled quality of our products. They’ll always be produced from 100% organic hemp, non-GMO, free of harmful chemicals, heavy metals and synthetic cannabinoids, supporting UK & British Isles farmers.
Yes, yes and yes! All of our food products are certified organic by the Soil Association, and everything we make is vegan.
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil naturally contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and hemp seeds contain all nine essential amino acids. We use hemp seed oil in all our CBD products.
Hemp naturally does not contain gluten, therefore our products are gluten-free! The combine machinery is shared with other plant crops, even though it is cleaned we cannot guarantee use for coeliacs.
Absolutely. We welcome volunteers all year round for anything from a day visit to one week with accommodation. Take a look at our volunteering page for more information, and to apply. Please note, we work Monday-Friday. Also check our Hempen Events for a visit!
